The Trenton Lady Bulldog tennis team scored a 7-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon in Carrollton, officially opening their 2015 campaign.
Trenton nearly swept singles play, taking five of the six individual matches. Claire Utley scored an 8-3 win at number one but Hannah Farmer fell 8-4 at number two. It was all Trenton from that point, however. Lauren Dolan won 8-1 at number three, Codi DeLong picked up an 8-2 win at number four, Samantha Mihalovich won 8-0 at number five and Madison Searcy won 8-1 at number six.
Utley and Farmer fell 8-5 in the first doubles match, but Dolan and DeLong won 8-0 and Searcy and Mihalovich won 8-2 to cap the 7-2 dual victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
“We are really excited we were able to come out and get our first win of the season,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Bobbie Hainey said. “The girls played hard and didn’t let the first match nerves get to them.”
The win established a 1-0 start to the season for the Trenton netters. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday, playing host to Savannah in the home opener at the THS tennis courts. That dual is scheduled for 4 p.m. first serves.
Junior Varsity
The Trenton junior varsity tennis team was also victorious in the opener, topping Carrollton 4-3. Alainey Fair scored singles wins of 6-4 and 6-0 and Elle Neal won her singles match 6-2. Trenton also got a doubles win of 6-4 from the duo of Fair and Neal.
Other JV players in action were Emily Bonta, who lost in singles play 6-4; and Latorrie Johnson, who fell 6-2 in singles action. Johnson and Bonta dropped a doubles match together, 6-2.
Trenton’s JV unit will also be in action against Savannah on Thursday in Trenton, following the varsity dual.
