The Trenton Lady Bulldogs junior varsity softball team was in action on Saturday at the Putnam County JV Tournament in Unionville. Trenton finished fourth at the tournament, running a 2-2 record.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up back-to-back wins to open the tournament, defeating Green City 7-1 and Novinger 18-2. The Lady Bulldogs were defeated 8-4 by Southern Boone County in game three and closed the tournament with a 4-2 loss to Clark County.
Ashten Whitaker was the pitcher of record in all four contests for the Lady Bulldogs. She didn’t allow an earned run in the first two contests en route to wins, but yielded four runs in each of the final two games, taking losses. Whitaker struck out 12 total batters in the four games combined.
Offensively, Trenton was paced by Taylor Richman who had five hits on the day and scored seven total runs in the tournament. Richman also drove in four runs on the day. Katerina Black added four hits, five RBIs and two runs scored.
With the split at the tournament, the Trenton JV established a 2-2 record to open the season. The Lady Bulldogs JV will be back in action tonight, taking on Milan’s JV following a varsity contest between the two schools. Action at Griffin Field in Trenton is scheduled to begin at 5 o’clock.
