Russell R. Bate, an 88-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe.
There is no scheduled family visitation.Visitation is under way at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
Mr. Bate was born on Sept. 14, 1926 in Gopher, SD, the son of Ray Bate and Jennie Thompson Bate. He was a Merchant Marine from 1944 to 1946. He was married on Sept. 14, 1947 in Chillicothe to Peggy McNally, who survives of the home. He was self-employed as a contractor. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a past deacon. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Bate; one son, Ray Bate and his wife, Debbie of Ashland; two daughters, Beverly Herring of Cameron and Cindy Peterie and her husband, Kerry of Chula; one sister Florence Keith of Napoleon; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Bate; and two sisters, Mildred Brown and Ruth McNally.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund and/or North Missouri Baptist Home and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
