Jack Robert Fender, a 79-year-old resident of Cainsville, died on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Fender was born on April 19, 1936 in Glenwood, IA, the son of Walter and Cleo McKean Fender. He was raised in the Cainsville community and was a 1954 graduate of Cainsville High School. After high school, he attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, from September 1955 to June 1958 and September 1961 to December 1961. In August 1958, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country for three years. In civilian life, he worked as a conservation contractor, farmer and real estate broker. He enjoyed gardening, putting puzzles together, cooking and classical music.
He was married on June 5, 1976 to Renee Hansel. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1977. In 1978, he married Marilyn Persell. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1990. He was married on April 5, 2003 to Janet Kay Stark Shriver, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Karrie Tidlund and her husband, Gus of the state of Georgia, and Farrah Journey and her husband, Travis of Springfield; five step-grandchildren, Avery, Sarina, and Eythan Tidlund and Marissa and Gabriel Journey; one brother, Rod Fender and his wife, Becky of Cainsville; one sister, Jacqueline Spidell and her husband, Bob of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Josephine Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton with Pastor William Dowd officiating. Burial will be in the Middlepoint Cemetery, west of Mercer.
Open visitation and viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at the funeral chapel, where the family visitation will be held that evening from 7 to 8 o’clock.
