Prior to the business meeting, over 400 members and guests enjoyed the evening meal served by the Mercer County 4-H and entertainment by Tim and Todd’s Country Music Show. Members also browsed the information booths and visited with employees of Grundy Electric Cooperative and Mid-States Services, LLC. Various booths exhibited products and services available to GEC members. The GEC Community Foundation, Inc. booth included information on grants and Operation Round Up.
Prior to the business meeting, GEC Community Foundation President Cliff Addison discussed the Foundation and encouraged members to participate in Operation Round Up. Addison presented 21 fourth quarter grants, totaling $13,370.13 to area schools.
Boy Scout Troop 105 presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Pastor Gary Watkins of the First Christian Church of Princeton gave the invocation. Corporate Development Manager Peggy Boulware acknowledged former board members, and special guests.
Grundy Electric Cooperative Board President Dan Lentz presided over the business meeting. Lentz welcomed and thanked members for their attendance and participation in the Cooperative’s annual business meeting. Lentz announced that the board of directors approved a capital credit refund with 25 percent of 1983 and 25 percent of 2014 totaling $170,199.42. Capital credit checks will be provided to members during member day events scheduled for Oct. 26, 27 and 28.
Lentz also presented a plaque and recognized retiring Director Jack Clark for his service on the Grundy Electric board. Clark had served as a director since 2003.
General Manager Scott Wilson thanked members for their commitment to the cooperative by attending their annual membership meeting. Wilson introduced the board of directors and presented years of service awards to ten employees. Wilson informed members regarding maintenance of the distribution system, including new builds, pole replacement and reconductor projects. He also introduced Prepaid Metering, a new voluntary program to assist members with a choice to prepay for electricity. Wilson talked about the nations changing energy policies and challenges that will affect Grundy Electric Cooperative.
Guest speaker, Missouri’s Director of Agriculture, Richard Fordyce of Bethany, highlighted the current Missouri agriculture industry and current initiatives the Department of Agriculture is focusing on.
Members elected three directors to each serve a three-year term. Board candidate Adrian Cox of rural Trenton was elected to represent Area #1. Incumbents Dan Lentz of Browning, representing Area #2, and Alan Guernsey of Bethany, representing Area #5, were re-elected.
