Raymond Maxwell “Max” Snyder, an 80-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today (Monday, Aug. 3, 2015) at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, with Pastors Danny Moore and Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville.
Mr. Snyder was born in Mercer County on June 1, 1935, the son of George Raymond and Alta May Hayes Snyder. He was raised in Mercer County, where he was a 1953 graduate of Mercer High School. Prior to finishing high school, he worked for Clay Rogers at the Lineville Elevator. In 1954, he purchased the old elevator and moved it to South Lineville in 1962. He purchased property in Lineville and moved the grain bins and elevator leg there. He owned and operated the elevator for over 22 years and also the elevator in Derby, IA, for four years. In 1975, he sold the Lineville elevator and sold the Derby elevator in 1976. He continued farming until his death.
He was a member of the Mercer Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, restoring and collecting classic and antique cars and antique farm tractors. He was a member of the Army Reserve Forces from 1957 until April 1963.
Mr. Snyder was married on Jan. 17. 1960 to Nora Anna Lee Clark, who preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 2012.
He is survived by his two sons, Mike Snyder and his wife, Stacy of Lineville, and Jeff Snyder of Mercer; two grandchildren, Rayleigh and Rayce Snyder; and his dog, Missy.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Larry Snyder.
