After a lengthy absence, Grundy County 4-H and FFA youth livestock exhibitors will have the opportunity to participate in a premium auction at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the North Central Missouri Fair livestock pavilion.
According to auction chairman Kristi Urich, the premium auction is a way in which area individuals and businesses can support Grundy County youth in agriculture. In a premium auction format, the supporter bids on the youth and is not directly buying the animal, since many exhibitors will be going on to exhibit at the state fair and other county fairs.
There are two ways in which individuals can participate. The first, and most enjoyable, is to attend the live premium auction and directly bid on the exhibitor while they show their animal. The second, for those who cannot attend, is to send a donation tothe Mrs. Urich at 1161 SE Hwy E, Laredo, MO 64652. These funds will go into a consolidated account representing “Grundy County Youth in Agriculture Supporters”. These funds will help to establish a premium floor. All contributions are tax deductible and receipts will be provided.
Mrs. Urich said that for the past month, exhibitors have been responsible for writing letters and extending personal invitations to area business owners and individuals. Raising and exhibiting an animal as a project is very rewarding and teaches many lifelong lessons, she said.
“Many of the kids have expenses related to their projects including purchasing the animal themselves to paying for the feed and veterinary bills,” Mrs. Urich said. “Supporting the Grundy County Youth Livestock Premium Auction is a way to commend them for their hard work and efforts.”
Mrs. Urich said the NCM Fair Board is looking for those individuals and businesses who are interested in helping build a tradition in the community of supporting youth and their agricultural interests. For more information or to make a donation, persons can contact Mrs. Urich at 660-359-1047.
