Area School Boards Set Tax Levy Hearing Dates

The Laredo, Newtown-Harris and Princeton school boards set dates for tax levy rate hearings and heard maintenance reports during meetings on Monday night.
Laredo R-7
A date for the tax rate levy hearing was set during the Laredo R-7 Board of Education meeting.
According to information provided by the board secretary, the hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 at the school. This will be prior to the regular monthly board meeting.
Approval was given to the transportation report as well as the Annual Secretary of the Board Report. It was announced that an on-site audit scheduled for July 6-7 was postponed and will be rescheduled for sometime in August. Board members also reviewed the budget.
An executive session was held for personnel, legal, student matters and confidential records, with no announcement made.
The next board meeting will be on Monday, Aug. 10.
Newtown-Harris
The Newtown-Harris Board of Education amended its new budget during a meeting on Monday night.
Superintendent Kim Johnson reported that the budget for 2015-16 was amended to include a $1,000 increase in the base pay for certified staff. Non-certified staff will be receiving a 3 percent salary increase.
Summer maintenance plans were discussed, including building repairs, new tile in the main hallway and replacement of the main double doors in the high school entrance. Work is being done by Ron and Judy Hall and their crew.
The tax levy rate hearing was set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, prior to the regular board meeting. The school audit will be taking place on July 21 and will be conducted by Bob Conrad.
Mrs. Oaks gave a presentation regarding the greenhouse construction project. FFA members Abby Wells, Blake Foster and Katie Blanchard gave a presentation on their participation in the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington D.C.
The board approved membership in the Missouri Association of Rural Educators for the 2015-16 school year.
The next board meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 10.
Princeton R-5
The Princeton R-5 Board accepted several bids at its meeting on Monday night.
According to information provided by Board Secretary Christy Stockman, the board approved a bid from Red Rock of Kidder for demolition, debris removal and seeding of property the district owns on the northwest corner of the school campus. The bid of $17, 750 was the lowest of three received. Red Rock has until Oct. 31 to complete the project.
A bid of $800 was accepted from Power Lawn Care to do mowing and trimming on the school campus.
The board approved a lease financing resolution, authorizing an agreement between the school district and L.J. Hart and Company of St. Louis for municipal bond underwriting services. The district will have $270,000 in proceeds from bonds, of which $250,000 will be used for construction purposes.
The board head an update on the current construction project, which includes high school roof repairs, set to begin on Aug. 1; the new HVAC units at the Stacy Center, to be installed in early August; the Stacy Center roof coating, to be completed in mid-August; and the new basketball court and goals, completed in late September. The board discussed planning for other building projects in the future, with a committee to meet later this month to begin evaluating facility needs.
It was announced that the annual school audit will take place on July 20. Approval was given to a sale of surplus items, using the www.govdeals.com website. Items will be listed on the website from Friday, Aug. 7 to Friday, Aug. 14.
The board set the tax levy rate hearing for 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, prior to the regular board meeting. Bids are to be sought for bread, milk and fuel.
