Delbert Dwight Prothero, 76, of Jamesport went to join his beloved wife Rose on Sunday, June 28, 2015 after fighting a brief battle with liver cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Shelburne Baptist Church near Trenton. Burial will be at the Shelburne Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport.
Delbert was born on Sept. 3, 1938, the son of Oren Prothero, near Poosey, where he attended country school and graduated from Jamesport High School. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rose Clark on Oct. 8, 1958 in Breckenridge. The couple moved to Jamesport, where they lived all their married lives and raised their family. Delbert was employed for the City of Jamesport as water superintendent and also worked for the city street department. He devoted 45 years of service, retiring in 2011, but he continued to assist the city with a variety of needs. Delbert also was a volunteer for the Jamesport Fire Department for 37 years and was the fire chief for 25 years. He was community-minded and was always ready to go when called upon.
Delbert was a member of the Shelburne Baptist Church. In his spare time he liked to do woodworking and refinish furniture as well as collecting clocks. He liked nothing better than to find a bargain and bring it back to its original beauty and just like new. He was skilled with his hands and could tackle any job with ease. Delbert will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Delbert is survived by his children Cathy Rice and her husband, Dean of Trenton, Gregory Prothero and his wife, Leslie of Armstrong and Karen Prothero of the home; brothers, Darrell Prothero of Cameron and David Prothero of Eldon; grandchildren, Justin Rice and his wife, Heidi and Joseph Rice and his wife, Brielle. He was thrilled with his three great-grandchildren, Ava, James and Grant Rice.
Delbert was preceded in death by his father; his wife of 51 years, Rose; a brother, Donald Prothero; a sister, Dorothy Prothero; and an infant son, Jeffery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelburne Baptist Church new building fund or the Jamesport City Park new building fund in care of McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport.
