Russell Gear, an 81-year-old resident of Gilbert, AZ and formerly of Chillicothe, died on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Inurnment will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ at a later date.
There is no scheduled family visitation. General visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015, at the funeral home.
Mr. Gear was born on Nov. 16, 1933 in Chillicothe, the son of Walter and Lavene Crump Gear. He served in the United States Army beginning in 1949 until his retirement in 1962. He served in Korea and Germany during his Army career, beginning in 1949. He then served in the Missouri National Guard from 1963 until 1978.
Mr. Gear was married on Oct. 8, 1953 in Bennettsville, SC to Shirley Ruth Peterie, who preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2000.
He worked as a quality technician for the Department of Defense for 11 years. He was a member of Highview Baptist Church at Chillicothe.
Survivors include three sons, Nick Gear of Tulsa, OK, Antoni Gear of Liberty and Randy Gear of Trenton; four daughters, Cinda Jauregui of Alpine, CA, Brenda Cross of Gilbert, Glenda Gear of Liberal, KS and Cynda Gear of Phoenix; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; daughter, Trenda Gear; four brothers, John, Leroy, Bill and Ronald Gear; and grandsons, Jeremy Whitmore, Christiaan Gear and Josh Whitmore.
