R-5 Board OKs Balanced Budget; Accepts Retirement

The Grundy R-5 Board of Education approved its budget and took care of several personnel matters during a meeting on Thursday night at the school in Galt.
Approval was given to a balanced budget for the 2015-16 school year, which shows revenues to exceed expenditures by $371. According to information provided by Superintendent Rob Deaver, revenues are anticipated at $2,447,855 while expenses are listed at $2,447,484. A special meeting was set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 to amend the 2014-15 budget to show actual revenues and expenditures and close out the fiscal year.
The board accepted the retirement of long-time coach and physical education teacher Les Jackson with the intent of him returning to fulfill some teaching and coaching responsibilities. Jackson has been with the R-5 School District the past 33 years.
The resignation of long-time board member Melody Shipley was accepted and, following a closed session, she was hired to serve as part-time technology consultant for a new math software program which was approved by the board for implementation in several math classes next year. Mrs. Shipley will continue as the board secretary.
In other personnel related items, Ethan Bunnell was announced as the science and physical education instructor for next year. He was hired during an executive session of the board earlier this month. The board has also hired Leetta Fordyce to coach junior high girls and boys basketball next year while Jessica Parsons will serve as the head girls softball coach and assistant boys softball coach. Randy Huffman will be the boys softball coach and the assistant girls basketball coach.
