Jun 12, 2015 | Baseball, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton Blue Jays AAA American Legion baseball team drew a split with Chillicothe on Tuesday night at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton, taking game one 5-1 before falling 9-5 in game two.
In game one, the Blue Jays got a strong pitching performance from Wyatt Thomas, who fired all seven innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits.
Offensively, Trenton was paced by Kyler Sewell, who had a double and two runs driven in. Cree Mullenix had two hits and an RBI and Cade Mullenix tallied two hits as well. Lane Widener, Zack Powell and Hadley Williams all had one hit each in the win.
Game two saw Trenton tally five runs again, but this time it would not be enough as Chillicothe piled up nine runs for the victory, salvaging a split of the two-game set.
Widener was the losing pitcher for Trenton in game two. Powell had two hits for Trenton, but it was Derek Hussey who had the hit of the night, blasting a home run over the 330-foot fence in left-center field. Widener, Andrew Michael, Thomas and Williams all had one hit each for Trenton.
Following the split, Trenton turns its attention to tournament play this weekend. The Blue Jays travel to Chillicothe for a tournament from Friday to Sunday.
