Marjorie Deloris Shields, a 92-year-old resident of Lineville, IA died on June 4, 2015 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, IA with Pastor Aaron Stark officiating under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Lineville.
Mrs. Shields was born on Dec. 8, 1922 northwest of Lineville, the daughter of Birt and Eliza Jane Vinzant Ellis. She lived most of her life in the Lineville area. She attended the Elm Country School in Decatur County and was a 1940 graduate of Lineville High School. After high school, she attended Simpson College in Indianola, IA and Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, IA, receiving her teacher’s certification. She taught school in the country schools of Lone Star, Jefferson and Elm from 1941 until 1950. She then took time off from her vocation in education to raise her nine children and in 1971 returned to education at the Lineville-Clio School working in the office as an administrative assistant, retiring in 2005.
She was married on Aug. 24, 1948 to Lawrence Lee Grant Shields, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1985.
Besides her work in education and raising her family, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy on TV, reading, coin collecting, quilting and sewing, working crossword puzzles, putting together jigsaw puzzles, gardening and canning.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Shields of Bethany and Lisa Davis and her husband, Mark of Springfield; six sons, Jim Shields and his wife, Judy, Jack Shields and his wife, Diane, David Shields and his wife, Kathy and Richard Shields and his wife, Brenda, all of Lineville, Randy Shields and his wife, Anna May of South Lineville and Dennis Shields of Bethany; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Pamela Jones; a grandson, Brent Allen Shields; three brothers, Kenneth, Wayne and Earl Ellis; and four sisters, Verda Rheshinski, Dorothy Davis, Flossie McClain and Ida Hutchinson.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Evergreen Cemetery. Contributions may be mailed to the funeral home at PO Box 316, Princeton, MO 64673.
