The Grundy County Assessor’s office is reminding taxpayers that agricultural productivity values per acre were raised by the State Tax Commission and the Missouri Legislature.
According to the commission, the new values went into effect on Jan. 1 and the Grundy County assessor’s office was compelled by the state to comply with this change. The most recent study conducted by the commission indicated an increase in productivity values per acre for agricultural and horticultural land. In December 2013, the commission proposed the study’s range of productive values to the General Assembly, with the legislature having 60 days to reject the recommended increase in 2014.
The values are used universally by the state and the commission noted that the productivity valuation increase in 2015 is the first since 1995. State statute dictates that agricultural and horticultural properties be assessed at 12 percent of true value. Those increases include Soil Grade 1, $985 in 1995 to $1,035 in 2015; Grade 2, $810 to $850; Grade 3, $615 to $645; Grade 4, $385 to $405; Grade 5, $195 to $205; Grade 6, $150 to $158; Grade 7, $75 to $79; and Grade 8, $30 to $35.
Change notices have been mailed for all changes to structures, but have not been mailed for value differences in ag land. Persons with questions can call the assessor’s office at 359-4040 or come to the office, located on the first floor of the Grundy County Courthouse.
Board of Equalization appeals are due by Monday, July 13, with the BOE meetings beginning on Monday, July 20. July 31 is the last day BOE appeals can be heard.
