The Trenton High School boys’ tennis team saw its season come to a close on Saturday at the Class 1, District 15 individual tournament.
The Bulldogs were paced by Alex Davis, who just missed qualifying for sectionals in singles play, finishing third. Davis received a first round bye before picking up a 6-1, 6-0 victory to move into the semifinals. There, however, Davis was dealt a 6-0, 6-2 loss by a Cameron opponent, knocking Trenton’s top player out of sectional contention. Davis would win a coin flip for third-place, earning a district medal.
Kade Ockenfels was also in singles play, winning 7-5, 6-3 in the first round. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals, however, falling 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Trenton had the duos of Jacob Davis and Bryce Whitney and Jacob Hall and Isaiah Lickteig in action. Davis and Whitney had a first-round bye, but fell 6-3, 1-6, 6-7 in the quarterfinals, bumping them from the tournament. Lickteig and Hall were eliminated in the first round after a 6-0, 6-0 loss.
The individual portion of the district tournament marked the end of the season for the Trenton tennis team as only the top two in each bracket advance to sectional play. The Bulldogs wrapped the season with a 5-15 overall record and a 4-9 showing in dual play.
