TMS Teams Finish Runner-Up

The Trenton Middle School track and field teams were in action Monday, traveling to compete in the Carrollton Junior High Invitational. Both Trenton teams placed second out of 10 teams at the event.
Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls were paced by Maycie Mayfield, who grabbed the Lady Bulldogs’ lone first place finish, winning the long jump with a mark of 13-6. Mayfield also picked up a third-place medal in the pole vault.
Trenton’s 4×400-meter relay team of McKayla Blackburn, Sydney Lynch, Ainsley Tolson and Lexi Whitaker finished second and the same four combined for a third-place effort in the 4×200-meter relay.
Other top-three finishers for the Lady Bulldogs included Tolson, second in the triple jump; Mykah Hurley, second in the long jump; Salem Croy, second in the shot put and third in the discus; Whitaker, second in the high jump; Allena Allen, second in the 800-meter run; Karli Provorse, third in the 800-meter run; and Blackburn, third in the 400-meter dash.
“I’m proud of the girls’ effort,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Jon Guthrie said. “Coach Megan Sager works well with our long and triple jumpers at practice and I was very impressed with their performance today. Our middle distance runners also stepped up and did an awesome job today. Overall the girls had a solid team performance.”
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys collected five gold medals at the meet in Carrollton, with Jadan Whitney taking two with wins in the discus and shot put events. Zane Rottman won the 1,600-meter run and Matthew Sibbit won the triple jump. The Bulldogs’ 4×100-meter relay team of Jose Velazquez, Carson Radcliff, Nick Shields and Sibbit came in first to round out Trenton’s first-place finishes.
Other top-three performances for the Bulldogs included Hunter Trask, second in the shot put; Isaac Harris, second in the pole vault; Radcliff, third in the long jump; Mark Trump, third in the high jump; and the 4×400-meter relay team of Sibbit, Shields, Whitney and Rottman, which placed third.
“Our student athletes performed well again and I really think we are peaking just in time for our last meet,” Bulldogs’ Coach Brandon Boswell said.
Both Trenton teams will run in their final meet of the season on Wednesday in Kirksville. Action begins with field events at 2 p.m. and track events begin at 3 p.m.
