The Trenton High School boys golf team was in action on Friday at the Richmond Invitational Tournament, placing 12th in a 23-team field with a team score of 342.
The Bulldogs went head-to-head with several larger schools at the tournament, including Pembroke Hill, which won the event with a score of 311; Columbia-Rock Bridge, which was second with a 313; and Barstow, which rounded out the top three with a score of 316.
Trenton was paced by the duo of Nate Swann and Cree Mullenix, both of whom carded an 83. Mullenix did so with a 40 on the front nine and a 43 on the back while Swann arrived at the total after nine-hole marks of 42 and 41. Mullenix and Swann tied for 33rd overall at the tournament with their score.
Trenton’s Corbyn Guile turned in the Bulldogs’ third-lowest mark, carding an 87 after shooting a 43 on the front nine and a 44 on the back. Cade Mullenix went 44 and 45 to finish with an 89 and round out the Trenton team total. Nick Gass was also in action for the Bulldogs, finishing with a 93 after carding a 48 on the front nine and a 45 on the back.
“Some of the boys started off a little rough, but were able to get it together and salvage their rounds,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “Cree played pretty good. He just had a couple holes that hurt him. Corbyn and Cade both turned in solid rounds. I think they are both gaining a little confidence and are feeling a little more comfortable out there.”
Trenton’s golf team is back in tournament action today, competing at the LeBlond Tournament in St. Joseph. Action began at 9 o’clock this morning.
