Lady Bulldogs Run Away With Team Title, Boys Second Again

The Trenton High School track and field teams hosted the Trenton Relays Thursday at C.F. Russell Stadium. The Lady Bulldogs collected their third meet victory of the season, pacing the 14-team field with 178 team points. The Trenton boys, meanwhile, ran second to Brookfield for a second-straight meet, finishing runner-up with 93 team points.
Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls blew the field away at their home track, collecting over 50 points more than their closest competitor. Trenton piled up the 178 points with the help of seven first-place finishes, worth 70 points total.
Tenna Roberts had a big day for the Lady Bulldogs, winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Roberts broke the tape in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.49 and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.15. She would pick up a third gold medal at the meet’s final event, teaming with Ayron Osborn, Whitley Richman and Shayla Woodside to win the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:28.45.
All three of Roberts’ teammates in the 4×400 would earn individual gold medals as well. Osborn took the triple jump with a mark of 33-4.5 and Woodside won the long jump with a leap of 14-9. Woodside also finished runner-up to Osborn in the triple jump with a jump of 30-8.5. Richman, meanwhile, grabbed gold in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.5. Richman also ran second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.32.
Trenton’s other first-place finish came in the shot put where Ally Ockenfels recorded a throw of 37-7 to take the gold.
Trenton added seven second-place finishes to it’s haul of seven gold medals. In addition to Richman in the 300-meter hurdles and Woodside in the triple jump, Roberts placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.27, Thelma Guerrero was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.98 and Karley McCollum was second in the high jump with a mark of 4-10. Guerrero, Abbie Shuler, Alainey Fair and Cassidy Trump combined to place second in the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relays. The team finished the 4×100 with a time of 56.3 and ran the 4×200 in a time of 1:58.72. Trenton’s 4×800-meter relay team of Ivy Rottman, Fair, Jakolbie Stotts and Kayley Griffin finished third with a time of 11:17.92.
Other placewinners for the Lady Bulldogs included Osborn, third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:08.14 and third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.78; Woodside, third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.51; Mason Hooyman, third in the pole vault with a mark of 7-6; Guerrero, fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.95; Rottman, fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:48.54; Stotts, fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:04.53; Trump, fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 7-0; Richman, fifth in the high jump with a mark of 4-6; Ockenfels, fifth in the discus with a throw of 86-4; Shuler, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.46 and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 58.42; and Griffin, sixth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:36.03.
Behind Trenton in the team standings was Brookfield with 125 team points. Carrollton took third with 55 points, Maysville was fourth with 47 points and Gallatin rounded out the top five with 37 points.

Bulldogs
The Trenton boys won just one event at the meet, but backed it up with four second-place finishes and several other placewinning performances to run second at their own relays.
Relay teams again anchored the Trenton effort with the 4×400-meter relay team of Jonathan Lamp, Bailey Owen, Dalton Ellis and Trey Shields winning with a time of 3:39.53. The 4×100-meter relay team of Travis Leeper, Ellis, Lamp and Owen finished second with a time of 45.2 and the 4×200-meter relay team of Leeper, Shields, Lamp and Owen also ran second, crossing the line with a time of 1:36.08. Trenton’s 4×800-meter relay team was also second as Trent Crawford, Thomas Mack, Jose Barron and Kail McCarter finished with a time of 8:55.89.
Individually, Leeper picked up a second-place medal in the long jump, recording a mark of 19-2. That was just good enough to hold off teammate Austin Burkeybile, who was third in the event with a distance of 19-1.5.
Other placewinners for the Trenton boys included Dalton Ellis, third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.96 and third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.87; Lamp, third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.24; Owen, fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.87; Crawford, fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:00.81; Aaron Anderson, who was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-5.5; Terrin Ellis, fourth in the shot put with a throw of 38-10; Wyatt Whittle, fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.76 and sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.99; Mack, sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:05.91; and Daniel Rodriguez, sixth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:40.85.
Brookfield tallied 108 points to fend off Trenton and it’s 93 points for the team title. South Harrison was third with 86 points, Carrollton was fourth with 56.5 points and Winston rounded out the top five with 50 points.
Trenton’s track and field teams will be back at it on Tuesday, traveling to Cameron for the Cameron Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin with field events at 3 p.m.
