The Trenton High School boys’ tennis team suffered a dual loss to Chariton on Thursday afternoon at the THS tennis courts, 5-4.
Things looked good for the Bulldogs early as the dual opened with doubles play and Trenton took all three matches. Jacob Davis and Bryce Whitney teamed up for an 8-6 victory and Isaiah Lickteig and Jacob Hall combined to win 9-7. The third doubles match was close as well, but Trenton came out on top once again as Kade Ockenfels and Wyatt Neal scored a 9-7 victory.
In singles play, Trenton needed two wins to get the dual victory, but Chariton controlled that portion of the dual. Only Whitney was able to bring home a singles win for Trenton, defeating his opponent 8-2. Davis fell 8-6 at number one and Lickteig was defeated 9-8 in a tiebreaker at number three. Hall lost 8-4 at number two and Ockenfels was narrowly defeated at number five, 9-7. Neal fell 8-6 in the final singles match of the day.
With the loss, Trenton fell to 2-3 in dual action on the season.
The lone JV match contested on the day saw Trenton’s CJ Sibbit win 8-3.
Trenton’s tennis team is back in action today, traveling to the Marshall Tournament, which began at 9 o’clock.
