Aaron Dowis, top left, and Ronna Owens, middle left, were named to the MCCA’s All-Missouri Academic Team, which recognizes the state’s top community college students. Dowis is a nursing major at NCMC and plans to become a nurse practitioner and eventually teach as a nurse educator. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, has been on the president’s honor roll and received the Award for Clinical Excellence from the NCMC Nursing Program. Miss Owens is pursuing an associate’s degree in health science with plans to become a physical therapist. A native of Laredo, she has received the State and American FFA Degree and is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Student Senate, Phi Mu Epsilon and the Pre-Med Club at NCMC. She is the daughter of Ronald and Lori Owens. Each of the students received a scholarship made possible by a donation from MOHELA, the state’s not-for-profit secondary market lender and servicer in the student loan industry. Melody Shipley, bottom left, received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in teaching, which recognizes the state’s top community college instructors. Mrs. Shipley is the math lab instructor in the Academic Resource Center on the NCMC campus. Pictured with all three recipients is NCMC President Dr. Neil Nuttall.
