The North Central Missouri College softball team was handed four losses by Three Rivers Community College over a two-day stretch in Poplar Bluff. NCMC was swept Friday, falling 3-2 and 8-1, and dropped two more to Three Rivers on Saturday, losing 7-4 and 16-1.
Friday
The series started on Friday with the Lady Pirates falling by a single run, 3-2. Madi Trump drove in the two Lady Pirate runs, going one-for-three. Rachael Grossman was two-for-three with a steal. Courtney Seymour and Scotlin Hurley scored the two Lady Pirate runs.
In the circle, Scotlin Hurley took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and no walks. She struck out five in her six and one-third innings of work.
Game two saw NCMC’s offense continue to struggle, scoring a single run on just four hits. Grossman had half the team’s hits with two and stole another base while TeriAnna Mohler had a hit and the team’ lone RBI. Jennifer Stock scored the Lady Pirate run after drawing a walk.
Lauren White was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks in three innings and struck out one batter. Bailey Perkins threw the final three innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and a walk.
Saturday
The Lady Pirates were outhit 14-6 in game one on Saturday and fell 7-4.
NCMC jumped out to an early lead after scoring three runs in the first inning and held that lead into the fourth where Three Rivers scored twice. The teams traded runs in the fifth, but a four-run seventh inning put Three Rivers over the top.
In game two, NCMC fell 16-1 and the Lady Pirates were outhit 20-3 in the game. Three Rivers scored seven runs in the first inning, two in the second and six in the third to lead 15-0 early. NCMC managed a run in the fourth but that was it as Three Rivers pushed the lead back to 15 runs with another score in the fifth, ending the game early.
No individual statistics were available from Saturday’s games as of press time.
The Lady Pirates fell to 18-15 overall and 5-9 in Region 16 play with the losses. North Central will try and snap a current six-game losing streak on Tuesday as the team travels to Kansas City to take on Maple Woods in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
