The North Central Missouri College softball team entered Wednesday’s Region 16 showdown with Jefferson College in Hillsboro riding a 15-game winning streak, but that run was ended as Jefferson swept the Lady Pirates with wins of 4-0 and 12-2.
Game One
The Lady Pirates’ offense was shut down in game one, collecting just five hits and the defense wasn’t any better, committing three errors. Scotlin Hurley took the loss on the hill, allowing four runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
At the plate, Hurley, TeriAnna Mohler, Courtney Seymour, Rachael Grossman and Jennifer Stock had one hit each. Seymour stole three bases in the loss.
Game Two
In the second game, NCMC managed two runs, but were again held to just five hits. Hurley was two-for-two with a double, home run and both RBIs. Mohler and Seymour each had one hit and Hailey Lowrey added a hit as well.
In the circle, Lauren White had a rough outing, allowing 11 runs, six earned on eight hits and a walk while striking out two in three innings. Hurley threw one inning of relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits. North Central’s defense committed four more errors in the loss.
With the two losses, NCMC fell to 18-11 overall on the season and 5-5 in Region 16 play.
The Lady Pirates will return to the diamond on Friday and Saturday, traveling to Poplar Bluff for a four-game series with Three Rivers Community College. The teams will play a doubleheader both days and all four games are Region 16 contests.
