Lyle Eugene Curry, a 78-year-old resident of Mercer, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Mercer Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Helton officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, IA.
General visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church, where the family visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. one hour prior to the funeral service. Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Curry was born on March 29, 1936 in Decatur County near Lineville, the son of Clelland Peter and Hazel Parthine Vaughn Curry. He was raised in Lineville, where he attended school. He joined the United States Air Force in 1954, serving over three years during the Korean Conflict.
He was married on Dec. 25, 1958 to Barbara Ann Shaffer, who preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 2015.
He lived in Mercer most of his life and was a member of the Mercer Baptist Church, being ordained a deacon on Jan. 28, 1973, He was also was a member of Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post #477.
Mr. Curry worked for William’s Exterminating Service from 1962 until 1974 when he purchased the territory he served and renamed the business Curry Pest Control, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Iowa Pest Control Association for several years.
He enjoyed his church and church family. He also enjoyed working in his yard, tinkering, bird watching and with Barbara, attending their grandchildren’s many activities.
Mr. Curry is survived by a daughter, Kelli Ann Beavers and her husband, Timothy of Trenton; a son, Chris Eugene Curry and his wife, Dawna of Corydon; his sister, Chastine Haggard of Mercer; four granddaughters, Brandi Horton and her husband, Tim, Casey Beavers and Josie and Taylor Curry; a great-grandson, Jacob Horton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lea McCulley and her husband, Harold of Princeton and Donna Anderson of Moberly; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
