Donald E. Lowrey, a 92-year-old resident of Longview, TX, died at home on Monday, March 16, 2015.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 18, 2015) at the First Christian Church in Longview. Burial was in the Rosewood Park Cemetery in Longview.
Mr. Lowrey born on Dec. 8, 1922, in Trenton. He grew up in Trenton and graduated from Trenton High School in 1942. He entered the Army in 1943 and served during World War II in the 79th Combat Engineer Regiment. During the war, he participated in the invasions of New Guinea and the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946.
Following the war, Mr. Lowrey attended the University of Missouri and graduated in 1952 with a degree in marketing. In 1965, after many years of working in various management positions with Skelly Oil Company and Champlin Oil Company, he moved to Longview and entered the real estate business, eventually forming Don Lowrey Real Estate, which he operated until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Lowrey attended the First Christian Church in Longview, where he served as a deacon and as an active member of the Cornerstone Sunday school class. In addition to his church activities, he was a former member of the Longview Lions Club and was active in the Longview Board of Realtors and the VFW.
Mr. Lowrey is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis C. Lowrey; three sons, Greg Lowrey, Kent Lowrey and his wife, Karen and Jeff Lowrey; his daughter, Joy Lowrey Wells and her husband, Jim; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Local survivors include two nephews, Stan and Mike Lowrey, and a niece, Ann Brinser, all of Trenton.
