The Laredo Board of Aldermen met on Thursday, March 12, taking action on two ordinances.
City Clerk Ashley Boren said the council approved an ordinance, setting the budget for 2015, which goes into effect on April 1. The budget shows an anticipated income at $171,269 and expenses projected at $170,788, leaving a net income of $481 for the year. Also approved was an ordinance amending a current ordinance regarding animals in the city limit. The change reworded a section on fencing, which now states that electric fencing is only permitted if located more than two feet away from the city right of way.
Aldermen are reminding registered voters in Laredo to go to the polls on April 7 to vote on the question of not having to have an election if the number of candidates equals the number of positions open for the board and mayoral positions. Laredo is currently required to hold an election no matter the number (or lack of number) of candidates for the city election.
The next council meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 at Laredo City Hall.
