Funeral services for James Richard Griffith are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Trenton. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to service time on Saturday at the church. Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the mortuary.
Mr Griffith, a 91-year-old Trenton resident, died at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Mr. Griffith was born on May 31, 1923 in Gilman City, the son of Walter and Edith Mae Oram Griffith. He graduated from Gilman High School before attending Trenton Junior College and Northeast Missouri State College. He was married on Sept. 27, 1944 in Troy, KS to Leo Lorene Sharp.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1944 to 1946, fighting in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, he worked at Gambles for 12 years and then worked for the Rock Island Railroad until retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church as well as the VFW and American Legion.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Judith Thomas and her husband, Mickey of Carrollton; a son, Richard Griffith and his wife, Dawn of Trenton; a brother, Gene Griffith and his wife, Frieda of Gilman City; six grandchildren, Jeremy Clinkscales, Jamie Sullivan and her husband, Brian, Amanda Clinkscales, Angie Bonderer and her husband, Jimmy, Jennifer Jackson and her husband, Steven and Matt Griffith and his wife Lauren; step-grandchildren Autumn, Tristin and Hunter Trask; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, his wife and a grandson, Caleb Clinkscales.
Memorial donations may be made out to the First Baptist Church or the donor’s choice and left with or mailed to the funeral home.
