Mar 16, 2015 | Softball, Sports & Recreation

The North Central Missouri College softball team was in action twice over the weekend, dropping two games to Jefferson College at home on Saturday and bouncing back to sweep St. Charles Community College on the road on Sunday. NCMC fell 9-0 and 14-6 against ninth-ranked Jefferson on Saturday, but defeated St. Charles by scores of 10-6 and 10-4 on Sunday.
Saturday
Against Jefferson, the Lady Pirates were shut out in the opener. NCMC managed just four hits in six innings while Jefferson ran up nine runs on 13 hits.
Courtney Seymour had half of the Lady Pirates’ hits, going two-for-three, and stole a base. Jennifer Stock and Rachael Grossman had one hit each. Scotlin Hurley took the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned, on 13 hits and two walks while striking out two.
In game two, NCMC managed six runs, but Jefferson scored 14 runs on 12 hits. Jefferson got eight of its runs in the first inning, leading 8-1 after the first frame. Jefferson added six more in the third and had the game pretty much wrapped up when the Lady Pirates mounted a four-run rally in the fifth, which would not be enough.
Hailey Lowrey was one-for-three at the plate with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Tierney Martin was one-for-two with two RBIs and Grossman had an RBI as well and stole a base. Stock and Hurley each scored a run with Hurley adding a stolen base. Seymour had two more steals.
In the circle, Lauren White took the loss, allowing 14 runs, 12 of which were earned, in three innings of work. She allowed 12 hits and three walks. Bailey Perkins threw the final two innings, allowing no runs or hits, walking three and striking out one.
Sunday
On Sunday, NCMC bounced back with a two-game sweep in St. Charles. The Lady Pirates racked up 10 runs in both games, garnering the sweep.
No individual statistics from Sunday’s games were available as of press time.
The Lady Pirates are now 5-9 overall and 5-3 in Region 16 action. NCMC will travel this week to Arizona, where they will compete in the Tucson Invitational Tournament. Action begins on Wednesday with the Lady Pirates taking on Northeastern Junior College and Triton College.
