Lady Cardinals Clinch Sixth-Straight District Title

The Mercer Lady Cardinal dynasty continued this past Saturday in Purdin as the Lady Cardinals clinched their sixth-straight district championship, defeating host-school Linn County 56-39 in the championship game.
Mercer jumped out to an 18-12 first quarter lead and then went up 36-21 by halftime with an 18-9 run in the second quarter. Mercer was able to protect its lead in the second quarter, outscoring Linn County 12-10 in the third quarter and equalling Linn County’s eight points in the final frame.
Mercer was paced by Bailey Owens, who scored 21 points to go with seven rebounds, two assists, four blocks and three steals. Nicole Kost added 16 points, four assists and three steals. Mercer also got 11 points from Emily Sample and Lindsay Wyatt finished with six points, eight rebounds and five assists. Chantel Robinson rounded out Mercer’s total with two points and Breanna Main pulled down seven rebounds in the win.
With the victory, Mercer cruised to 28-0 on the season. Mercer will be in sectional action on Tuesday, traveling to Kirksville where the Lady Cardinals will face Community High School at 7:45 p.m.
