The Grand River Conference realigned its divisions following Putnam County and Milan joining the conference last week. The division realignment and other questions were addressed at a meeting held in Gallatin on Wednesday.
The big news out of the meeting was the realignment of the divisions and the divisions being named. The divisions will be called the East and the West. Trenton will compete in the East Division for softball and basketball with Gallatin, Maysville, Milan, Polo, Princeton, Putnam County and South Harrison. The West Division will consist of Albany, Braymer, King City, North Andrew, Pattonsburg, St. Joseph Christian, Stanberry and Worth County. Braymer, originally in the East, was moved to the West with the additions of Milan and Putnam County to give the conference two equal eight-team divisions.
In football, the divisions remain the same with all of the East schools and King City and Braymer making a 10-team 11-man football conference and the West schools, minus King City and Braymer, making a six-team 8-man football conference.
In addition to realigning the divisions and naming them, the process of determining conference champions in other various activities was discussed. Preliminary decisions were made to use divisional play in football, basketball and softball as well as having a conference tournament in wrestling and golf. The wrestling and golf conference tournaments will include all schools in the conference that field a team in either sport. In addition, the championships in track and field will be determined at a one-day meet featuring all 16 Grand River Conference schools.
