Dwayne M. Sawyer, an 87-year-old resident of Rolla, died on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Rolla City Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 at the funeral home.
Mr. Sawyer was born on June 23, 1927 in Trenton. He attended Trenton High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville. He served in the Army during WWII . He married Kathryn Fitzpatrick Sawyer on June 6, 1950. They were married for 54 years.
He retired in 1986 from the USGS where he worked for 30 years. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rolla, where he served as a deacon. He worked with LOVE/GRACE and the CBC.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Sawyer Baker of Weldon Spring, Christine Sawyer Hill of Rolla and Gregory M. Sawyer of Rolla; grandchildren, Nicole Baker of St. Louis, Lucas Hill of Ormond Beach, FL, Justin Hill of St Louis, Woodrow Hill of Englewood, CO and Andrew Baker of Strafford; siblings, Rosetta Sawyer and Paul Henry Sawyer of Trenton; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers.
