NCMC Closes Regular Season With Victories

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams closed the regular season on a high note, earning a sweep of North Arkansas Community College on Saturday at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton.
The Lady Pirates picked up an 83-63 win in the women’s game and the North Central men scored a 111-108 win in the men’s game.

The NCMC women got off to a quick start and ran out to a 20-point lead in the first half. The Lady Pirates matched North Arkansas stride-for-stride in the second half, maintaining their 20-point edge to the finish.
The Lady Pirates were paced by Imani White, who had 21 points and six assists. Brooke Parton added 19 points and Madison Winters finished with 14 points, three assists and five steals. Narel Santos pulled down nine rebounds in the win.
With the victory, the Lady Pirates finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak to go 18-11. The Lady Pirates are seeded first in the Region 16 Tournament after winning a coin-toss between themselves and St. Louis Community College, both of whom went 7-1 in region play. The Lady Pirates will play the winner of a Cottey College-Wentworth Military Academy play-in game on Thursday at Ozark Christian College in Joplin. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.

The North Central men trailed 56-53 at halftime in their match-up with North Arkansas and needed a frantic rally down the stretch to pull out the win. NCMC trailed 108-100 late, but closed the game on an 11-0 run to seal the victory, their fourth in a row.
Tyrell Thirkield led the way for the Pirates with 27 points and six assists. Terrance Bush finished with 17 points and three steals and Xavier Newson had 16 points. Andrew Berry scored a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds and also had three assists and three steals in the win. Jory Woodson had 15 points as well and added five assists. Reid Summers finished with 14 points for the Pirates.
The win gives the Pirates a final regular season record of 22-6. The NCMC men were 4-2 in Region 16 play and will be the top seed in the Region 16 men’s tournament. The Pirates will face Penn Valley at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Ozark Christian College in Joplin.
