Trenton’s four state qualifying wrestlers were in first-round action this morning at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Drew Rorebeck (132) and Mason Mounce (160) both advanced to the quarterfinals with win by fall in the opening round. Mounce scored a takedown and nearfall in the first period against Zack Siebert of
Maplewood-Richmond Heights but couldn’t secure the pin. In the second round, however, Mounce picked up another takedown and nearfall, this time converting with a pin to get the win. Rorebeck went back-and-forth in his first round match, starting with a takedown and nearfall only to have it reversed on him by Lexington’s Cayden Bertz. The two would exchange nearfalls before Rorebeck picked up the pin midway through the second period.
Thomas Mack (170) also won in the first round, defeating Greg Lovegren of Principia by a 5-2 decision. Mack made his points on a reversal, escape and takedown, while Lovegrean scored a reversal and was awarded a point when Mack was called for stalling.
Trey Shields (182) suffered a first round loss, as he was pinned by Adrean Fisher of Lawson late in the third period. He bounced back in wrestlebacks, however, pinning Sean Hannan of Principia in the third round while leading 8-6.
Trenton’s four wrestlers are now done for the day. Action ramps back up in Columbia Friday beginning with the quarterfinal matches at 9:30 a.m. where Mounce, Rorebeck and Mack will all be in action. Second-round wrestlebacks, where Shields will be, will follow.
