Six members of the Trenton FFA Chapter presented the program at Thursday’s Trenton Rotary Club meeting. Rick Klinginsmith introduced the program.
Making the presentation were Alex Davis, Becca Tate, Caitlin McNabb, Logan Demsich, Jenna Meservey and Jeramiah Chipps. They were accompanied by Brooke Kreatz, advisor.
Davis, who serves as chapter president, said the group has 129 members at THS, with girls outnumbering the boys 69 to 60. According to Davis, two-thirds of Trenton FFA students are freshmen and sophomores. The students discussed plans for the local observance of FFA Week, which will begin with church at Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton. The chapter is also inviting the community to the FFA appreciation breakfast, which will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 in the THS vo-ag building. Members also discussed fundraising activities, ag contest teams and FFA-related trips, as well as community service projects, which have included working at the Church Women United Thrift Shop and the cook shack at the North Central Missouri Fair. FFA students also have supervised agriculture experience (SAE) projects, which collectively amounted to $260,000 last year. Of that total, $181,000 involved students in job placement and $79,000 were for FFA students who have ownership of their projects.
In Rotary reports, members were invited to purchase tickets to attend the Trenton Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on March 13. The club will sponsor “Trenton’s Got Talent” at 7 p.m., April 11 in the THS gym. Fine money raised at the meeting will be donated to the Shoes for Orphan Souls campaign.
Phil Hoffman announced that Mercer County native Duane Dailey will present the program at next Thursday’s meeting. Dailey is an ag columnist for the University of Missouri.
