The Trenton junior varsity basketball teams played their final games of the season on Monday night, playing host to South Harrison. It was a good send-off for the JV squads as the girls scored a 41-4 win and the Bulldogs took the boys’ game 48-34.

The Trenton JV girls jumped out to a 9-4 first quarter lead and the defense made sure that was enough. The Lady Bulldogs would go on to rack up 41 points in the game, but South Harrison would not score again after the first quarter. Trenton’s suffocating defense shut out the visitors the rest of the way for the big, season-ending victory.
“Our defense was great all game, especially after the first quarter,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach John Cowling said. “This group had a great season, especially with all the roster changes we had to make because of injuries. Most of these girls played both our freshman and JV schedule and finished a combined 9-4. A lot of these girls improved as the season progressed.”
Lana Raymo led the Trenton offense with 16 points and Tenna Roberts followed with 11 points. Jaylen Neff scored six points and Lauren Dolan, Ashten Whitaker, Claire Utley and Samantha Mihalovich all finished with two points each.
The Lady Bulldogs’ junior varsity team finished the season with a 5-4 record following the win.

The Trenton JV boys also finished the season on a good note, defeating South Harrison 48-34.
Trenton had control of the game from the tip, up five at the end of the first and 11 at the half. South Harrison would get as close as eight points but could never fully get back into the game in the second half.

Tucker Franklin looks to pass during the Bulldogs’ junior varsity 48-34 win over South Harrison on Monday night. Franklin scored two points in the victory.
“Our big guys were the key for us tonight,” Bulldogs’ Coach Kameron Cool said. “Our guards had to be a little more selfless and throw the ball inside because Ryan (Hines) and Colton (Ellis) had some mismatches we were able to take advantage of. I also thought we locked down on defense, in the fourth quarter especially.”
Trenton was led by Ryan Hines with 17 points. He was followed closely by Colton Ellis who scored 14 in the contest. Corbyn Guile had eight points and Hunter Dugan scored three. Cade Darting, Tucker Franklin and Jarren King rounded out the Bulldog scoring with two points each.
The win gave Trenton a season-ending record of 9-6 overall.
“It’s been a great year.” Cool said. “This group worked hard every night which is all a coach can ask for. We got better as the year went on and, hopefully, some of these guys will be ready to make some varsity contributions next season.”
