Gilman, Princeton Split

The Gilman City and Princeton high school basketball teams split a nonconference doubleheader on Monday night in Gilman with the Lady Hawks winning the girls game 50-31 and the Tigers taking the boys game 65-34.
In the girls game, Gilman City ran out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and held the 14-point advantage still at halftime. The Lady Hawks outscored Princeton in both the third and fourth quarters, winning by 19. Saige Holmes had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Gilman City (13-7) and Darriane Carey had eight points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Lady Hawks. Kady Sperry had eight points as well. Princeton (6-15) was paced by Paige Phillips, who scored 13 points.
In the boys’ contest, Princeton led by just six points after the first quarter, but outscored the Hawks 10-4 in the second quarter to go up 12 points at halftime. Princeton pulled away a lot more in the second half, winning by 31 points. Brant Faulkner had 19 to lead Princeton (17-4) and Hunter Boxley and Stephan Elliott added 16 and 10 points, respectively, for the Tigers. The Hawks (3-15), meanwhile, got 13 points from Cornelius Peery and 10 from Shane Arnold.
