Representatives of DaVita Dialysis Center of Trenton presented the program at Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Debbie Carman was the program chairman.
Shelly Norman, an RN and facility manager, and Connie Knifong, also an RN, presented information about the company and the Trenton facility, which has been open since June 2014 and is located in a portion of the former Easter’s True Value building on Ninth Street. DaVita has 87 clinics nationwide, including clinics in Trenton and Chillicothe. The Trenton site can handle up to eight patients at one time and as many as 24 during the day. There are currently 14 dialysis patients in Trenton.
Ms. Knifong told about the hemodialysis system used at the local clinic, which cleans the toxins during the dialysis process and filters the blood before it is returned back to the body. She said most of the patients come to the clinic three times a week for three to four hours a day, depending on the severity of their situation. She said that patients are closely monitored by staff during dialysis and blood pressures are taken every 30 minutes.
During the business meeting it was announced that the club has received preliminary approval for a District Simplified Grant which will be used to help purchase medical equipment for Wright Memorial Hospital.
The board met following the meeting and approved use of fine money for the Shoes for Orphan Souls project.
Next week’s program chairman is Jean Peace.
