The Mercer High School girls’ basketball team picked up another win on Tuesday night, defeating Winston at home 70-44. The Mercer boys were unable to knock off Winston, however, falling 79-46.
The Mercer girls racked up win number 20, moving to 20-0 on the season. Mercer outscored Winston in each and every frame, pulling away throughout the contest en route to the victory.
The Lady Cardinals were paced by Nicole Kost, who put up 21 points on the night. Bailey Owens added 15 points, Emily Sample had 14 and Lindsay Wyatt finished with 12 for Mercer. Breanna Main had six and Brittany Snow had two to round out Mercer’s total.
The Mercer boys weren’t able to knock off a 16-2 Winston squad, falling to 13-7 on the year with the loss.
Winston ran up 25 points in each of the first two quarters and outscored the Cardinals in the third and fourth frames as well to pick up the win.
The Cardinals were led by Galt Porter and Trey Wilson, both of whom had 11 points. Larramie Moore added eight points and Trevor Hamilton and Bryer Noe each pitched in with six points. Jared Campbell had three points and Dylan Poush finished with one.
Mercer’s teams will be back in action on Friday, traveling to Eagleville to take on North Harrison. The girls’ game gets things started at 6 p.m.
