Frank Gann Clark, an 88-year-old resident of Mercer, died on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at Cameron Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, IA, with Pastor Sean Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the Girdner Cemetery, north of Mercer.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral chapel, where the family visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Clark was born on Feb. 26, 1926 in Mercer, the son of Alvin Estridge “A.E.” and Anna Griffin Gann Clark. He was raised in Mercer, where he graduated from high school. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. After his service, he continued his education and received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He was employed by the University of Missouri Extension Department as an agriculture specialist and adviser for several years.
He was married on Jan. 26, 1953 to Patricia Ann Crutcher, who survives of the home in Mercer.
After retiring from the extension, he taught vocational agriculture in high schools for five years. He then managed a motel in Chillicothe, while his wife managed the restaurant for nine years. His last employment was as a tool buyer for Westlake’s Hardware, living in Columbia.
The couple returned to Mercer in 1987, where he served as a member and past commander and adjutant of the Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post #477, was a co-founder and member of the Mercer School Alumni Association and a member of the Mercer United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and genealogy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Laura Jeane Clark of West Des Moines, IA; a son, Mike Clark and his wife, Connie of Tujunga, CA; a granddaughter, Kelsey Miller and her husband, Brendan of Los Angeles, CA; two brothers, Paul Clark and his wife, Mary Ann of Nevada, Mo and Alvin Clark and his wife, Joan of Ethel; two sisters-in-law, Rayma Smith and her husband, Raymond of Independence, and Deloris Clark of Mercer; and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Ann Clark; and two brothers, William and John Clark.
The family requests memorial contributions to either the Mercer United Methodist Church or the Girdner Cemetery. Contributions may be mailed to the funeral home at PO Box 316, Princeton, MO 64673.
