Nelda Jane Hobbs, an 84-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015 at Pearl’s II Eden for Elders in Princeton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at the Princeton First Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Half Rock Cemetery, southeast of Princeton.
Open visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton, where a family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 o’clock on Saturday night.
Mrs. Hobbs was born on Nov. 19, 1930 near Half Rock in Mercer County, the daughter of Wade Hampton and Helen Mildred Gibson Stanturf. She lived most of her life in Mercer County, where she attended rural schools near Half Rock and also Princeton High School. She was married on Sept. 2, 1947 in Russellville AR to Russell Evans Hobbs, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2002.
The couple lived and farmed near Ravanna. She worked at the Princeton Care Center for several years, and later as a courier for Great Western Bank. In her spare time, she enjoyed trips out west with Russell, raising flowers and a garden.
She is survived by five sons, Randy Hobbs and his wife, Angel of Marshall, Duane Hobbs and his wife, Jeania of Princeton, Dee Hobbs and his wife, Marsha of Princeton, Greg Hobbs and his wife, Ruth of Kilgore NE and Bill Hobbs of Princeton; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Robinson of Trenton and Joy Brown of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Elaine Stanturf of Trenton; and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Stanturf.
