The Princeton boys picked up a big Grand River Conference victory on Tuesday night on the road in Bethany. Princeton topped South Harrison in overtime to keep their perfect GRC mark intact.
The Tigers trailed 18-16 after the first quarter, but surged ahead in the second, going up 36-24 by halftime. South Harrison chased down the Tigers in the second half, tying the game at 54-54 at the end of regulation. Princeton responded, however, outscoring South Harrison by two points in the bonus period to pick up the win.
Princeton (12-3, 3-0 GRC) was paced by 33 points from Brant Faulkner. Stephan Elliott added 13 points and Drew Cox and Justin Hamilton each scored six. Jason McLain had three points and Devin Purvis and Hunter Boxley each scored two.
So. Harrison Girls 60
Princeton Girls 36
The Princeton girls were unable to pick up a win in their match-up with South Harrison, falling 60-36. Princeton was very much in the game throughout the first half, standing tied at 11-11 after the first quarter and 22-22 at halftime. In the second half, however, things went south as South Harrison outscored the Lady Tigers 38-14 to pick up the league victory.
Princeton (4-11, 0-3 GRC) was paced by Maddie Enright, who scored 11 points. Paige Phillips added eight points, Ashton Summers scored seven, Hayley Johnson added six and Rachelle Parks finished with four.
Both Princeton teams host Milan in non-conference action on Friday.
Mercer Boys 62
Pattonsburg Boys 33
The Mercer boys ran up an HDC Conference victory on Tuesday night, defeating Pattonsburg 62-33 at home. Mercer opened the game with a 13-5 first quarter run and never looked back. A 22-11 run in the third quarter pretty much sealed things and the Cardinals coasted through the final frame en route to the 29-point victory.
Mercer (10-5) was led by Galt Porter, who had 21 points and Trey Wilson and Cash Hartley added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Bryer Noe had eight points, Larramie Moore added six and Dylan Poush and Jared Campbell scored two points each for the Cardinals.
Mercer Girls 62
Pattonsburg Girls 36
The Mercer girls followed up a Milan Tournament championship with a big win over Pattonsburg, wining 62-36. Mercer started each half on fire, outscoring Pattonsburg 22-10 in the first quarter and 25-11 in the third quarter. Those two runs were more than enough to swing the game in the Lady Cardinals’ favor as they rolled to the 26-point win.
Mercer (15-0) was paced by 24 points from Lindsay Wyatt. Nicole Kost scored 15 points, Bailey Owens added 12 and Chantel Robinson and Breanna Main each scored four points. Mercer also got three points from Emily Sample.
Both Mercer teams return to action on Friday, traveling to Galt to take on Grundy R-5.
Gilman City Boys 51
Newtown Boys 26
The Gilman City boys picked up a big win on Tuesday night, defeating Newtown 51-26 at home. Gilman ran out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and held that margin at halftime. The Hawks outscored the Tigers in the third and fourth quarters, pulling away for the 25-point win.
Gilman City (3-9, 1-1 HDC) was led by 14 points from Mitch Sievering. Cornelius Peery and Harold Neff each added 11 points. Newtown was led by Ismael Garcia’s 13 points and Blake Foster added 10.

Newtown Girls 21
The Gilman girls raced out to an early lead and never looked back, outscoring Newtown in each and every quarter for a runaway victory.
The Lady Hawks (7-6, 2-0 HDC) were led by Mikayla Toombs’ 13 points. Newtown got seven from Abby Wells.
Gilman hosts North Harrison on Friday night. Newtown is at Grundy R-5 Thursday.
