Charles F. Shockey, an 81-year-old resident of Independence, died on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at Village Care Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery.
A family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at the chapel.
Mr. Shockey was born on June 16, 1933 in Galt, the son of Charles J. and Kitty Frances McClanahan Shockey. He had worked as a truck driver and was a member of the Local #41 Teamsters Union for over 18 years. He was also a member of the Ararat Shrine and the Independence Masonic Lodge #76 AF&AM.
In his early life he raced stock cars and later was a collector of many items, including toy trucks, coins and barbed wire. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was married on July 8, 1956 to Veda Mae Wood, who preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2010.
He is survived by three daughters, Katherine Swayne and her husband, Ronald and Christine McPherson all of Independence and Kimberly Mautino and her husband, Larry of Odessa; a brother, Richard Shockey of Torrington, WY; four sisters, Marjorie Fronaphel of Harlingen, TX, Carol Miller of Hot Springs, SD, Dorothy Grady of Sunrise Beach, FL and Linda Sams of Boise, ID; eight grandchildren; and 4 great -grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Village Care Hospice in care of the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055.
