The Grundy R-5 girls used a 21-6 second quarter run to defeat Northwestern of Mendon 58-35 on Thursday night in Galt. The Lady Panthers had another big quarter in the third, outscoring the visitors 14-6.
“We buckled down our defense in the two middle quarters to get control of the game,” Grundy Head Coach Les Jackson said.
Matana Munday led the Lady Panthers with 17 points and 12 rebounds, earning yet another double-double. Emily Milazzo finished with 14 points and three assists and Kylie Littleton finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Zoe Littleton added nine points, Mckenna Owens had eight rebounds and eight assists and Mady Williams finished with six points.
The win vaulted the Lady Panthers to 4-5 overall on the season.

Grundy R-5 Boys 33
The Grundy R-5 boys fell behind 26-5 in the first quarter of their match-up with Northwestern and never recovered, falling 67-33.
“Northwestern was too much for us from the get-go,” Jackson said.
Mathew McLain led Grundy with nine points in the loss. Mason Radcliff had six points and three steals, Brady Huffman had six points, Alex Webb had five points, Seth Riddle finished with four points and Isaac Chamberlin gave the Panthers eight rebounds and three steals.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 2-8 on the season.
Both Grundy teams will see action next week in the Milan Tournament.
