Darlene Mae Armstrong, an 81-year-old resident of Lake Marie, southwest of Mercer, died on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Princeton with Father Kevin Drew officiating. Burial will be in the Princeton Cemetery.
Open visitation and viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church, where the family visitation will be from noon until service time at 1 p.m. Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel of Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Armstrong was born in Tama, IA on March 16, 1933, the daughter of Stanley and Jesse Frye Braye. She was married on Nov. 4, 1968 to Calvin Ross Armstrong who survives her of their home.
Mrs. Armstrong lived most of her adult life in Marshalltown, IA, where she worked as an Emergency Medical Technician and as a stay-at-home mom. The couple moved to Lake Marie in 1997. She was a member of the Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post #477 Auxiliary in Mercer, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Princeton and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
In her younger years, she enjoyed scuba diving, and later in life enjoyed knitting, fishing, camping, reading mystery and western novels and caring for her cats and dog.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Deborah Jensen and her husband, Jerry of Wayne, NE and Becky Brown of Marshalltown; two sons, David Bryant and his wife, Mancha of Crestview, FL and Gary Bryant and his wife, Judy of Colo, IA; a brother, Warren Nash and his wife, Gwen of Marshalltown; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Kimberley Mae Ericks; and a great-grandson, Kohle Berensten.
