The Princeton High School basketball games were close on Saturday at North Central Missouri College’s Holiday Hoops, but both the Lady Tigers and Tigers wound up on the losing side against Hardin-Central at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. The Princeton girls fell 36-32 while the Tigers were defeated 58-57 in overtime.
Lady Tigers
The Princeton girls fell behind 10-7 in the opening quarter of play and would trail after each quarter. Princeton was never out of the game, however, staying within striking distance. The Lady Tigers were never able to get the push they needed, falling by four points in the end.
Paige Phillips scored 15 points to pace Princeton and Vivian Allen finished with 10. Haley Johnson scored seven points to round out the Lady Tigers’ total.
With the loss, Princeton fell to 2-5 overall on the season.
Tigers
The Princeton boys trailed by just a point after the first quarter and found themselves down 29-25 at halftime. Princeton was outscored again in the third quarter, but closed the game with a 20-15 fourth-quarter run to tie the contest and force overtime. In the bonus period both defenses rose to the occasion, but Hardin-Central got three points to Princeton’s two, taking the game by the slimmest of margins.
The Tigers were led by Stephan Elliott, who had a game-high 32 points in the loss. Brant Faulkner finished with 14 points for the Tigers.
With the loss, Princeton fell to 5-2 overall on the season.
Both Princeton teams will be back in action one final time at Holiday Hoops. The Lady Tigers were in action today, tipping off with Carrollton at noon. The Princeton boys return to the floor on Friday, taking on Winston at 8 p.m.
