Steve Maxey presented the program on High School Holiday Hoops during Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Allan Seidel was the program chairman.
Maxey, who serves as the committee chairman for Holiday Hoops, said that 99 teams representing 51 schools will be playing in this year’s event, which begins on Friday, Dec. 19 and continues through Saturday, Jan. 3. All games are played at the Ketcham Community Center with the North Central Missouri Foundation serving as sponsors. This is the 10th year for the event with schools coming from Iowa and Nebraska as well as Missouri. He told about how teams are scheduled and matched up and how the community has shown its support as volunteers as well as sponsoring various activities.
During the business meeting, Carl Whitacre was inducted as a new member. President Sarah Maloney also gave some trivia on the Battle of the Bulge, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this month.
There will be no meetings on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The next meeting will be on Jan. 8.
