The Trenton High School freshman basketball teams were on their home court on Tuesday night in Trenton, taking on the Cameron freshmen. Trenton’s girls team scored a 37-15 victory, but the Bulldogs were defeated in the boys’ game, 51-23.
Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton freshman girls got a good start defensively and were able to work their way out to a 12-4 first quarter lead. Trenton would go to the locker room up 16-8 at halftime and held Cameron to just seven second-half points as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to the 22-point victory.
Claire Utley led the Lady Bulldogs, scoring a game-high 14 points. Ashten Whitaker added 13 points for Trenton and Lauren Dolan finished with eight. Katerina Black rounded out the Lady Bulldogs’ total with two points.
With the win, the Trenton freshmen girls pushed their record to 3-0 for the season.
Bulldogs
The Bulldogs kept it close early, trailing by just nine at the half. It would not last, however, as Trenton was outscored 23-8 in the third quarter and Cameron coasted to a comfortable win.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 0-4 on the season.
“Our effort is never a problem, which I am pleased with,” Coach Kameron Cool said. “We worked really hard tonight, but Cameron is a good team and played really well. We can definitely improve on our rebounding and offensive execution, but we are getting better with every game.”
Trenton was led offensively by Kade Ockenfels who had eight points. Jarren King pitched in six, Hunter Dugan had five, Cade Darting added two and Cole Schilling and Eddie Delp had one each.
Trenton’s freshman teams will not see game action again until Monday, Jan. 12, when they travel to Princeton to face the Tigers in a girls-boys doubleheader. Tip time for the contests is set for 6 p.m.
