William “Bert” Wilkinson

William (Bert) Wilkinson, a 93-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at St. Ludgers Cemetery at Germantown.
Mr. Wilkinson was born on June 11, 1921 in Henrietta, the son of William Lambert Sr. and Lucy Graham Wilkinson. He graduated from Richmond High School and began his working career for the Civil Service for a short period of time before joining the Missouri Highway Department. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army, serving his country during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii as a cook and was discharged in 1945.
He was married on Feb. 14, 1946 to Edith Westhusing, who preceded him in death in 2005. He returned to the Missouri Highway Department, where he was a surveyor. He retired in 1983 after 40 years of service. During his years with the highway department, the couple lived in a small camping trailer and would travel wherever the job took them. They eventually settled in Higginsville, and in 2004 moved to Gallatin and later to Trenton to be near their daughter, Karen and finally to the Baptist Home in Chillicothe.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his daughters, Karen Young and her husband, Mike of Trenton and Sharon Legan of Leesburg, FL; a nephew, John Clark of Blue Springs; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death of his parents, his wife, three sisters and one brother.
