The GEC Community Foundation, Inc. awarded two grants to the Grundy County R-5 School District.  The first grant in the amount of $1,000 was to purchase iPads and the second grant in the amount of $470.53 was to purchase a TV for the elementary school library. The trustees of the GEC Community Foundation, Inc. met on Nov. 12 and awarded 16 first quarter grants totaling $10,090.13 to recipients in Grundy, Mercer, Harrison and Putnam counties in Missouri.
Successful education grant recipients included the North Mercer R-3 School District, Mercer; Spickard R-2 School District, Spickard; Grundy County R-5 School District, Galt; Trenton R-9 School District, Trenton; Laredo R-7 School District, Laredo; Pleasant View R-6 School District, Trenton; Gilman City R-IV School District, Gilman City; South Harrison R-2 School District, Bethany; Ridgeway R-5 School District, Ridgeway; Cainsville R-1 School District, Cainsville; Princeton R-5 School District, Princeton; and Newtown-Harris R-3 School District, Newtown. In addition, The Friends of the Bethany Public Library was awarded a Rural Development grant.
Since 2005, the GEC Community Foundation, Inc. has awarded 391 grants totaling $246,066.50 to schools and community organizations. The foundation assists qualifying schools and organizations with grant monies in the areas of education, health and rural development.
The funds are open to eligible entities within Grundy Electric Cooperative’s 12 county service area which includes Harrison, Mercer and Grundy counties and portions of Linn, Livingston, Daviess, Gentry, Putnam, and Sullivan counties in Missouri and portions of Ringgold, Wayne and Decatur counties in Iowa.
The next grant application deadline is Feb. 1. Qualified applicants must be a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization or other eligible entity and may apply for a grant by completing a grant application with supporting information.
