The Gilman City girls made a valiant effort to move on to the championship round of the Gallatin Tournament, but fell just short as they dropped a 61-52 decision to the host school on Thursday night.
The Lady Hawks showed some muscle early, running out to a 13-10 first quarter lead. Gallatin, however, put out its best offensive effort in the second quarter, racking up 21 points to take a 31-25 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Gallatin came back out in the third quarter and continued to dominate, outscoring Gilman City 12-8 to take a 43-33 lead heading into the final period of play. Gilman City was able to cut the advantage by one point, outscoring Gallatin in the fourth quarter 19-18.
Mikayla Toombs had the hot hand for the Lady Hawks, putting up 26 points including an 8-of-10 effort from the line. Darriane Carey put in eight points while Saige Holmes and Hailey Burrows added six each. The Lady Hawks also got three points each from Morgan Reed and Kady Sperry. Carey led Gilman City in rebounding with eight boards and Burrows collected seven rebounds.
The 2-1 Lady Hawks will now play for third place in the tournament, taking on Trenton in a noon match-up on Saturday.
Albany Boys 55
Princeton Boys 46

The Princeton boys were relegated to the third-place game at the Albany Tournament, falling 55-46 to Albany in the semifinals Thursday night.
Princeton (2-1) was paced by 13 points from Brant Faulkner and 12 from Jordan Adams. Stephan Elliott finished with seven points for the Tigers.
South Harrison Girls 48
Princeton Girls 13

The Princeton girls suffered their third loss of the season Thursday night, falling 48-13 to South Harrison in the consolation semifinals of the Albany Tournament.
The Lady Tigers (0-3) were paced by Paige Phillips, who scored seven points in the loss.
