Health Department To Host Flu Shot Event

Dec 3, 2014 | Headline News

On Wednesday, Dec. 10 the Grundy County Health Department will be holding a Christmas Flu Shot Extravaganza from 4 to 6 p.m. at the health department.
Flu shots will be available for all ages. There will also be cookies, cocoa, and a visit from some favorite Christmas celebrities.
The event is being held to help individuals get protected against the flu before the Christmas season.
Flu shots are recommended for all individuals age 6 months and older. The health department is offering quadrivalent or four strained flu vaccine for individuals age 64 and under and high dose flu vaccine for individuals age 65 and over. The high dose flu vaccine offers a higher dose of the vaccine to help older individuals develop a better immune response.
Last year 36,000 people died of the flu in the United States and thousands others were hospitalized. The quadrivalent and high dose flu vaccines are the best vaccines available in protecting you against the flu.
Flu shots will be offered on a walk-in basis during the event. Persons with Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance are asked to bring their card for billing purposes. For those who are uninsured, the health department is asking for a donation to cover the cost of the vaccine.
Persons with questions or needing more information can call the health department at 359-4196.
